Can you imagine making a five-hour round trip journey just to see a psychiatrist? Such was the case for Kim Coker of Johnsonville, SC and her son Jacob, a patient of MUSC Project Rex founder Dr. Frampton Gwynette.
The family didn’t want to change doctors, but the long car trips and loud city environments were very stressful for Jacob, who is on the autism spectrum.
Fortunately, there was a solution: Dr. Gwynette now sees Jacob on a remote basis through the power of telehealth.
South Carolina Educational Television (SCETV) recently did a feature about this telemedicine setup, which has proved positive and health-enhancing for Jacob and his family as well.
